Philco What Model
#1

Found this Philco console today at a flea market for 30 bucks and seems to be all there original.
But I need the schematic before I start any electrical restoration, the model # does not ad up for this radio says its Philco 60 and 505 isn`t that a cathedral? This is a console not cathedral.
The tag inside cabinet says Philco 60 and 505 so what model would this console be?

Hi, can you take a picture of it so we can see it? May help determine what model it is. Looks like Philco made a model 60 console in 1934-1935, It has legs.

Bill

It's not what you don't know that hurts you it's what you know that's not so.

No I can`t take a picture its in my shop. It doesn`t have legs but may have the same tube as the model 60 cathedral.

The Philco Model 60 was available in console as well as cathedral cabinet styles (and even a tombstone). Please take a look at the link below to see the various versions of Model 60.

P.S. Sounds like a great buy! Icon_smile

OK that sums it up it would be an Model 60 console. Thanks for that info now where can I get a good readable schematic?

May need to go back through your list again, they had a 60B listed but this radio looks like the model 29X.
I`m sure I must have missed the model 60.
I thought 30 bucks was a good deal but it will finish up very well and does look all original

Hi Rodney

Since you mentioned your 60 console has no legs, is it a 1936 Model 60F? That model is shown here:

http://www.philcoradio.com/gallery/1936a.htm#g

Good, readable schematics may be found at http://www.philcoradio.com/tech/60evol.htm . Philco made lots of changes to the Model 60 over its three year run, and these changes were poorly documented; in other words, Philco never issued any revised schematics.

Thats def. it, I new it was an low end/cost unit and I noticed 110,000 made original price 42.50.
It looks rather rough at this time but will make a good winter job, it doesn`t seem it was ever worked on, can`t find anything replaced in it.
Thanks,,

One more crazy question, since it says Model 60 and doesn`t have the F does that mean its an 60 F or just model 60.
I would guess the Model 60 without the F would be older but maybe not.
#10

"F" is the cabinet style. It will not have the letter F anywhere on it.

The Model 60 console made during the 1933-34 and 1935 model years was cabinet style "L", lowboy (it had legs and a stretcher base).

A brief description of these letters and Philco cabinet styles is given at http://www.philcoradio.com/tech/letters.htm .

OK thanks, got all the dust out of it today anyway.
I haven`t found any evidence the radio was ever worked on.

Well it seems that allmost every electronic part in this radio is bad, i`ve found a couple resistors within + or- 20 percent so far.
All those block bakelite are bad, but the coils seem to ohm out ok so far. Done changed out the filter caps with one 22UF 450 volts and one 10UF 450 volts.
All those old bypass wax caps have been changed and I decided to plug it in for a test burn.
Well static and a loud burst of energy when I touch the 75 tube. Well its turned off now untill another evening.
This radio has got some very sloppy soldering from the factory but thats going well allso.
