Thanks, Morzh. It has taken me a while to find just the right process to get it to look like that. I still have to sand and repaint the transformer. Any idea what to use to refinish it?
Thanks,
Eric

I never repainted a transformer, I know some folks here did.
I repainted a ballast tube once, used the enamel for a gas range as I thought it would stand to heat well which it did. With the transformer I think you do not have to worry about heat too much. I think any nitro paint, like that for cars, will do.
PS. Speaking of shining things, we have an expression in Russian, translates as "as shiny as cat's balls".

If I didn't paint the transformer, to me, the chassis wouldn't be finished. I don't go nuts like the guy on eBay with the yellow Zenith 5D611 who painted the IF cans OD green but I do like it to look good.

For the cabinet toner I would say a medium walnut or perfect brown for everything that color ( can't really see the colors I. The pic) and the darker trim will be good with dark walnut or extra dark walnut. Ex dk walnut is really dark, almost black so include that In Your decision. Remember that the cabinet color was lighter when new. Try gojo, lol

That is not an original finish on that 66S (on the right in first photo and by itself in the other photos). Most people who strip these usually refinish them in a monotone like that...but they were originally two-toned.
A better example:

Thanks, Ron and Joe,
The photo of mine is in the very beginning of the thread and I do believe by the looks of it it is original and there was no attempt to restore this radio.
To me th finihs looks good enough to preserve it with maybe some Howards or simply cleaning it with Gojo first and leaving it be.
I only will do the electronics for this one.

Yes, Mike (Morzh), the finish on your 66S cabinet does look original. Faded and worn, but original. Nothing wrong with leaving that cabinet alone (other than cleaning/Howards as you mentioned) and tackling only the chassis.

That's my plan. The less I have to do to a cabinet the better it is.
