Sold one and bought one [radios]
#1

I just finished the Rogers and sold it the next day and then today I went to an estate sale and bought this dictator. I slowly brought it up after inspection and it works but will need a recap and clean up .. i know the cabinet will come put very nice once I strip it.

The chassis is as clean as they ever get.
Nice radio.

Very nice find. Is that a brand name or a model perhaps ?
That cabinet will be a real looker when done.

Very nice radio! That one will be a real looker when you get it finished. Good job on the Rogers too!

Dictator used to be the private label brand of the Hudson's Bay Company who sold the sets in their stores and by catalog much like Sears. They were usually made by Grimes-Phonola/Dominion Electrohome. At some point they dropped the "Dictator" name and started labeling their sets as "Baycrest", likely after the war when the word "Dictator" gained an unsavory connotation. Studebaker had a mid priced model of car also named a "Dictator" but dropped the name in favor of "Director" for that reason, then phased out the model line altogether making the "Commander" the mid priced car.
