My Latest Project a Graymark 512
#1

When we moved to Texas I found this transistor radio in the bottom of a drawer hidden away for years.

A little history of the radio. If I recall correctly, I built this radio in A&P school in Pittsburgh PA. around the Summer of 1972. I believe it was a required project for the electronics course. As time goes by it was put away and forgotten.

Well lately I’ve been interested in restoring old tube radios now that I’m retired. I’m building a control line stunter and I have a little time between coats of paint. I remembered the radio and I opened it up and put in fresh batteries. Turned it on all I heard was static. Then I looked for the electrolytic caps which usually go bad after awhile. I ordered some new ones from Digi-Key and installed the 5 caps tonight. Turned it on and it plays, very loudly too!

I then cleaned it up using Scrubbing bubbles and took some pictures. It is so cool to hear that thing playing again after what 40 years!

Very nice, can hardly tell it was repaired except that it is clean now. Lol

I am not into transistor radios but I did get one recently that I really like.

My library is themed for secret compartments. Saw this secret hidden radio in a book and bought it instantly. Cover says radio time, it is leatherette and even has a clock in it! We know how I love clock radios. : mrgreen:
