My latest restoration - Philco 38-5B
#1
Big Grin

My latest restoration. Philco 38-5B. This started out as a 38-5X that I picked up on Craigslist for $20. Unfortunately it had serious veneer issues. So I found a new cabinet from Chuck Mcburney in Alabama. Thanks, Chuck This in turn necessitated a 8" speaker due to the size difference. That is ok, because my output transformer had a bad winding. Thanks to Mike Simpson in California. I now have a nice 38-5B in Michigan.

Beautiful job! It looks really great.

Where did you end up finding the grille cloth?

Believe it or not, this is the grill cloth that came in the cabinet. It was very dirty when I got it. I took a lint roller that we use to remove cat hair and used it several times on the grill cloth and the results were incredible. Still some holes there, but it looks incredibly better that what I started with.

This was the "before". Sorry, but I forgot to get an "after" out of the radio.
