how do i identify my record player?
#1

I have a 42-1009 (code 122) with a "beam of light" pick-up record player.I would like to find schematics and manuals for this but i can't find any Identification tags on it anywhere. It has the record feature and no speed selection feature if that helps.
Is there anyone out there that can help?

I am also working on a model 60 cathedral (2nd version circa 1934) and can not pick up a signal to save my life. any suggestions on where to start looking?

thank you to anybody who can help

Hi

On the first, if you know it is a 42-1009 then that is all you need. Icon_smile

You can get free schematics from Nostalgia Air, but for much better quality schematics with all pertinent change notes, etc., contact Chuck at the Philco Repair Bench. The fee is reasonable and you won't be disappointed.

On the Philco 60, have you changed all paper and electrolytic capacitors? Also, the antenna and RF coils are probably bad. You will either have to rewind the primaries yourself (see Chuck's site for details) or have someone such as yours truly rewind them for you.

Edit: Pertinent links for your Philco 60 coils.

Ron,

I have that 1942 service info.

I mis-read your model number earlier at work while being distracted by work. ;-)

Thank you both for taking your time to help me, i would like to say that with your advice and a good parts radio I have been able to sucsessfuly repair my old cathedral, and it sounds great!!! However the work on the old 42-1009 is not going so well, I have had no luck with it.My understanding is that they can be mechanical nightmares at times.
again, thankyou for all of your advice

one more quick question on my cathedral. Are they supposed to pick up short wave bands ? I get nothing but static when i set mine to shortwave, and i didn't know if that was for the now defunct airline/ emergency (police) chanells.
