Not Your Average PHILCO
#1

Some years back I was given this 220v British A535 mfgr'd just after WW-II... It needed a little of everything but cabinet and chassis were in good condition... When I pulled chassis to restring dial cord I had a panic attack and not finding any info on web, put it back together... Well last year I searched again and the service info is now online, without it doubtful I'd have ever gotten dial cord strung properly... Now recapped & has two AC cords so I can operate it from both sides of a RCA ISOTap xformer... Still needs a bit of detailing and grille cloth is wrong...

Not huge but at 15"W & 10"H, isn't small, largest Bakelite radio I own... Uses a 6" electromagnetic speaker that'd been replaced in early '60s, it and 5U4GB subbed for 5Y3G appeared to be only repairs...

I had to rework P/S(added filter section)as the field coil has only around 25% resistance of orig(no idea on inductance)... Had a irritating low level hum that could not be subdued by juggling part values alone... Otherwise has it's original Brinmar 6K8G, 6K7G, 6Q7G & 6V6G shouldered tubes...  Rectifier is a NOS replacement Philco 5Y3G dated in 1951...

Supposedly it was onboard ship, so I don't imagine hum was noticable...
