39-116 and 39-55 Transformer
#1

Question: I know the 39-116 and the 39-55 were "sister" sets, the 39-55 being AM only and having 4 fewer tubes than the 39-116. But would a power transformer from a 39-55 still work ok in a 39-116? The 39-116 only consumed 10 more watts than the 39-55, and both use #80 rectifier tubes, and have the separate filament transformer...

Not sure about the specs difference but...

Service bulletin for 39-116 is #310.
39-116 parts list shows power transformer as 32-8001.
Filament transformer is 32-7993.

Service bulletin for 39-55 is #310A.
39-55 parts lists shows power transformer as 32-7999.
Filament transformer is 32-7993.

Actually the 1939 Philco Parts Catalog has the specs for the 32-8001 transformer in the 39-116:

That transformer was also used in:
  • 40-516
  • 40-216

Unfortunately I couldn't find the specs for the 32-7999.
