Philco 37-650 electronics help
#16

Here is a discussion on the X Y caps: https://www.justradios.com/safetytips.html

Many of us buy electrolytics from Japan, like Nichicon, or Illinois Capacitor.

You will probably be using plastic film mylar caps to replace the paper waxed/molded caps. The old ones have a band to designate the outside foil which is usually connected to the lowest impedance side of the circuit. The new mylar caps are not marked so if you want to connect the new cap correctly you will need to take steps to find out which lead is the outside foil.

The bakelite blocks have a ground post which is usually part of the capacitor circuit and you would connect the outside foil of the cap to the ground. There's a document on this Phorum that has the part numbers and schematics of bakelite blocks.
