46-420 code 125 e-caps question
#1

Hi guys -

Starting on a 46-420, code 125.   This code run replaced the field coil speaker with a PM model, and among other circuit changes, the original two section electrolytic was changed to a three section, 30/25/30mf.  I have 33/22/33 e-caps.  Can I use these or are they too far from the original values?

Thanks,
Paul

They are just fine.

Thanks Mike.

I recently restored a 46-420 code 125 and I used a 47uf, 33uf, and a 22uf at 160 volts and the radio works perfectly with no hum whatsoever. I've read that you can go up a little on the values, but not drastically high. Just make sure the working voltage of the replacement capacitors is the same or higher than the originals.

The original values are 20/20. 33uF is a bit more but within 35Z5 tube's specs (40uF) and I doubt the voltage will go up much.

I used 33/22/22 to get closer to the original values. Plays great.

Last issue is the arm that moves the dial pointer is disconnected so the pointer doesn't move when tuning. Searching for documentation on how its connected.

Thanks for the help.

Hey Guys, so I am a real newbie here but just wanted to chime in, even though I just found out that after I finished my first recap yesterday - FAIL the radio doesnt work right.  the reception is garbled.  But I wanted to note for "morzh", the Code 121 has a pair of 20ufs and the code 125 has three (20-25-30u) e-caps. see pic.  I will post a separate thread to beg for help.
