Philco 38-2 Repair/restore to working condition
#1

I have a Philco Radio Model 38-2. I am looking to repair/restore this radio, the only problem is that I have no idea what do to or where to start. I was told that I was missing a tube and one might be damaged. Any suggestions?

The first thing you need to do before you even plug it in is replace the electrolytic capacitors. Here is a good beginners link on where to start, http://www.antiqueradio.org/recap.htm. Then replace all the paper wax capacitors. A schematic for your radio can be found here,http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/240/M0013240.htm . Also you can get a higher quality schematic as well as other service information from Chuck Schwark here, http://www.philcorepairbench.com/schematics.htm. It is really worth the $7.00 for what you get because you get a very readable 11 X 17 schematic and other service information that was sent to Philco servicemen.

Have fun
