According to a photocopy of the owner's manual I have for my 37-670, the shadow meter supposedly is user adjustable. The only thing I can see that could possibly be adjusted is a knurled plastic piece that also serves as the back of the coil, in front of the lamp assembly. This does not move with gentle pressure and I am afraid to exert force in case I'm barking up the wrong tree here. Can anyone help?

Yes, that is the actual coil, and it can be moved. It may be stuck after decades of not being moved, so proceed carefully.

Thanks,Ron! I started to gently rock the coil back and forth, and sure enough it moved -- albeit very stiffly. When I eventually get the radio together and back in the cabinet I'll be able to adjust the shadow -- assuming the coil isn't open.
I really appreciate the help.
