I have changed all the caps and resistors in this radio and I wanted to try to do an alignment because the radio works but only picks up one of the two AM stations in my area. I’ve never tried one before.
I bought a Heathkit SG-8 locally and read the manual. It’s still not very clear to me as to where each knob should be set and I would appreciate some basics on when to use what connection on the generator.
I had the SG-8 connected to the RF out and my DMM set for AC but that didn’t seem to be working right. Should I set the DMM to AC or DC voltage? I had the lead wire connected to the 6A7 grid cap which was removed from the tube and the ground wire connected to the chassis. I had my DMM connected to the plate and cathode of the 41 tube. I had set the SG-8 to 460.
I’m also not sure what they mean in the alignment instructions by, “advance the attenuator control of the generator until a readable indication is noted”. Also what is the best way to “short the oscillator section.”
I know this is old hat stuff to the Phorum members but it’s all new to me and I appreciate any advice/suggestions.
