Philco 20 lowboy color
#1

I want to refinish my beat up 20 lowboy cabinet and was wondering what colors/products folks have used to keep as close to original as possible?

Greg;
Which lowboy cabinet is it? Is it the one with the fretwork speaker grille or the earlier one with just the cloth? I myself have used Mohawk tone spray, but on dark wood parts I often use brown fabric dye to colour the wood so I don't have to use as much. Medium walnut, and dark walnut might be among them. The front panel of the early version seems to be bird's eye maple, and it looks like it was fogged around the perimeter with tone spray, though it was not finished as blond, the later version seems to be using Australian walnut in a chevron pattern, again fogged around the perimeter, and the speaker grille. Mike (Morzh) has one of the model 20 lowboy sets that is in fair original condition, I can't remember which one though, there are also a few photos in the gallery to go by for either version. If I were to take a guess the colour palette was similar to the cathedral versions.

Greg;
I would geta second opinion about the shading on this cabinet, the one in the gallery may be correct, but then again someone felt compelled to shine up the dial escutcheon, which is wrong. these were originally antiqued, so they may have taken some creative license with the cabinet as well.

This is the 1931 model. All original except the grillcloth.
