My Trans-Oceanic collection.
#31

I just picked up a package from eBay.
I only just managed to turn it on and make sure it works like new.
It looks like it needs very little work. Wash and clean. Repair the nameplate near the tuning knob. The telescopic antenna needs attention. Glue the dial drum back together. That seems to be it.
I've been eyeing this second-to-last Zenit Transoceanic unit for a while now. But the prices are pretty steep. This one didn't cost much with shipping either – 250 Canadian. But the normal price in this condition is three times higher.
So, I've already snagged two of the four transistor Transoceanics. Now I just need to find the 3000th. It's easy; there are a lot of offers, so the only problem is choosing. But the latest R7000 model is not only rare, but also exorbitantly priced. In fact, excluding the 3000th, which isn't a problem, to fully complete this collection, I'll need the very first Transoceanic in addition to the very last one. All that's left is to find 1,500 American greens for it.

If you want to work, lie down and sleep, and everything will pass.

I had the pleasure of meeting and visiting Mike "Morzh" this past June. Mike demonstrated several of his radios, including his 8G005 and his H500. I was stunned how nice the H500 sounded, much nicer than my 8G005, having outstanding bass response despite having only about 0.2W from its single ended 3V4 output stage. There is an AM station near him with a "middle of the road" music format. I was surprised how nice that station sounded. I swear that most stations either overmodulate or there is some reason why they sound so harsh when they play music. Unfortunately, the station is not very strong, and I can't pick it up even though I live only about 100 miles (a little less as the crow flies) from Mike, due to the amount of EMI, RFI, QRM, whatever you want to call it.
