Volume won't go completely down
#1

Hi,

I bought a Philco 84B that had no volume control, the sound would not go up or down. I found that the antenna transformer primary was open. I had the transformer rewound, now the volume goes up and down but not completely down. There is always sound coming from the radio even when the volume control is at the minimum. Any thoughts?

Sound out of a radiio iis always a good sign. Perhaps he On/off switch is shorted. I wish they were all that easy.

In model 84, the volume control is between the antenna terminal and ground. If the radio is not grounded, the volume won't turn all the way down. So...you need to connect the GND terminal to a good ground.

Please note that even if grounded, you still may not be able to turn the volume down completely on strong local stations.
