Finished 90 chassis
#1

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to share some pictures of my just finished 90 chassis. I did a complete overhaul on it, along with recapping, I replaced all the resistors save the BC resistor with 1 watt flameproof units. After checking the old resistors I found that most of them were at least 20% over tolerance! I also replaced all the wiring, cleaned and painted the chassis and power transformer. It was a lot of work, but I really enjoyed doing it!
It worked on the first power up and it plays beautifully. All that is left is to align it.
Now, on to cabinet!

That looks really nice. I typically don't care for painted chassis but you and Ron seem to make them look good. Is the cabinet a console or cathedral?

Thanks! As a rule I prefer the original finish as well. However in this case, there were several areas of condiderable rust on the chassis. After removing the rust, the chassis looked blotchy and uneven. Seeing as this was THE cathedral I wanted for so long I wanted to the best job I could! So I decided to paint it. I used Krylon's satin nickel paint that I read Ron uses. It works very well and leaves finish that doesn't scream "I'm painted!!" .
The big part is the prep work, it took me an hour just to tape up everything!! I also sanded and then polished all the coil cans with Mother's metal polish. then several light coats of paint. I had to remove the tuning condensor anyway to replace the rubber mounts so that was diassembled and cleaned and buffed. Here are some before and after pics.

That is just an great job on that chassis. Always wanted to try something in that depth of restoration but haven't had the courage. Congrats on a really fine job.
