Phorum How-To #16: How to Read or Send A Private Message (PM)
#1

I. HOW TO READ YOUR PRIVATE MESSAGES (PMs)

Just go to the top of any Phorum page and click the Private Messages button as shown below.

This will take you to your list of private messages or PMs.

If you have a new private message:

There will be a light blue banner at the top of any Phorum page as follows:

Here, you have two choices. Clicking or tapping the title of the PM will take you straight to that new PM.

The new PM will open:

It is easy to reply; simply type your text into the white box below the Quick Reply banner. You can even quote the original sender if you wish, as shown above.

When finished composing your reply, click or tap the Send Message button.

Now, if you click or tap the name of the sender in the blue banner:

You will then be taken to a page with info about that sender:

II. HOW TO SEND A PRIVATE MESSAGE (PM)

It couldn't be easier to send a Phorum member a private message (PM) through our Phorum.

The easiest way is when you see a post from someone you want to send a message to. Just click or tap the PM button under their post, as shown below.

The following screen will come up:

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...16_002.jpg]

Notice it is already addressed to the user to which you want to send a PM, since you clicked the PM button under the username.

Add a subject line in the Subject box.

Type your text in the large box as shown above.

When you are finished, just click the Send button which the green arrow points to.

You may also send a PM in the following manner:

Click or tap the Private Messages button at the top of any Phorum page.

In the page that opens up, click the Compose link as shown below.

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...16_006.jpg]

The Compose a Private Message page opens.

You will need to put your recipient's username in the box to the right of Recipients: (BCC). Yes, you can send your PM to more than one person.

If you are not sure of the username of the person you wish to send your message to, do the following.

Click or tap inside the box to the right of where you see Recipients: (BCC).

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...16_008.jpg]

Notice that you are asked to enter two or more characters. In this manner, the system will help you find a username.

As an example, let's say you want to send a PM to the Phorum board administrator, but you are unsure of the proper username. Is it admin or administrator? The system will help you.

Type ad in the box. Notice that you are presented with a list of choices.

Scroll through the list of usernames, You won't see a username for administrator, but you will see one for admin. This is the user you are looking for.

Click or tap admin in the list of usernames.

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...16_010.jpg]

Notice that the admin username is now in the Recipients box.

Type your subject line in the Subject box, and type the text of your message in the white box to the right of Message.

When finished, click or tap the Send Message button.
