philco 42-1015p
#1

HAve a lead on one of these Philco's with the double doors and 12 count tube radio.
I can pick it up for $50 if I want it.
Supposedly the cabinet is in great shape and the radio does not work.
Of course this is a Beam of Light changer and is probably worth more than the $50.
I have a couple 42-1012 philco's right now and find that they are the worst chassis to work on.
Layer after layer of pushbuttton crap and components buried in the mess.
Not sure if I want to get into another nightmare or hope for the best on this one?
What do you guy's think?

$50 is a bargain if complete and if the cabinet is as nice as you say. Why not grab it and flip it to someone who wants to go to the trouble of restoring it? It will be a nightmare, for certain. This one is worth the effort, but yes...another nightmare of rotten rubber-covered wiring.

What's with the 42-1015 sets suddenly starting to come out of the woodwork, anyway?

I paid $75 for mine in pretty good condition so $50 is a bargain. It was a chore to restore with all of the rubber wiring but it does sound really good with those 6L6s. Which cabinet is it, walnut or mahogany? I have only seen 3 or 4 of them (including mine) and only 1 was a walnut cabinet although more walnut cabinets were made.

I had a change of heart on this one guy's, so if your up to it, it's in MN.
After working on the 42-1012 I have, I decided to spare myself the grief.
Plus I don't think I have the room.

Good thing it's in MN. If it were within 100 miles of here, I'd be very tempted...and I literally have no place to put it. Another console would have to go.

Like I said, if it were closer...I think I would be picking out a console to let go of to make room for this one.

Box of spare tubes go with it as well.
