Mershon Condenser

Hello all,

I have a radio (Emerson Model F) from 1929 that
has a three section Mershon Condenser as the filter
caps (8 uF each).

I have removed it from the chassis and at least for
now have replaced it with modern 10 uF caps. The
radio is working fine.

I am wondering if this cap has any collector value?
I did not see any listed on eBay at all but I have
heard that they are sought after by collectors etc...

It would need to be gutted and re-stuffed of course,
it is very corroded along the top copper rim.

Anyone know anything about these caps?

I have rebuilt several. They are not as easy as the single cap Mershons found in some Philcos.

Chassis with Mershons caps are not that rare. I recently girt one from Kutztown that was pretty much junked.
You can rebuild them as usual aluminum can caps.
There are articles, some of them here from people who rebuilt them.
They are of course eye candies when cleaned and polished. Some folks install them in chassis that never had any aluminum cans or have them in totally different place, just to put them in for looks.

OK, thanks for the responses. I think I'll hang onto this one
and someday try to clean it up and re-install it in
the radio.

Low priority at this point!
