PHILCO yr.1950 Model 51-1733 Console AM/FM w 3 spd. phono
#1

I have a PHILCO console that needs all NEW GUTS. Poor thing! The AM/FM tuner chassis and the turntable, both were
stroed in a weather beaten shed. They stopped working and my folks couldn't find anyone to repair it so they removed the guts and kept the console in the living room.... really nicely kept and polished. Now I have the daunting task of finding the AM/FM radio and the 3-speed automatic changer. I have someone to install both but he's not up to the search for the parts. This is my job now. I'll have a photo or 2 soon to post.

By the way, your console is a 1951 model, not 1950. The 51- prefix denotes the model year.

BTW, your opinion makes sense BUT the original colorful small and worthless manual that we still have has the published date of 1950 on it, so I guess they were confused too...but you caught the discrepancy. Icon_eek

Ava,

Not my opinion and no discrepancies with those dates on your Philco.

A typical "model year" was not the standard "calendar year." New models typically were introduced in the 3rd.-4th. quarter of each year - like new car models nowadays.

So the 1951 models started to appear in Dealer showrooms in late 1950, with obviously 1950 printing dates on any associated paperwork, as you have discovered with your set.

Ron Ramirez's great Philco website with this dating info on it here:

Also browse the other good sections of Ron's website, which this Phorum is just a small part.

Enjoy your new Philco! Icon_smile
