After reading the alignment procedure given in the schematic and doing some soul searching i decided to try another approach and much simpler I might add. I only get three or four am stations in my locale during the day so I got a transistor radio put it one of the local station and proceeded to adj the tuning coil (rear of set) until I had the station then adjusted padder below that tuner and there it was, did same on all station and all worked well.

Yes that method is a good one and I have used it for years. Most all stations are right on frequency, so you don't have to worry about having a super accurate signal generator using this method, the station does it for you.

Thanks for the tip MM, I'll be doing that at some point on my 39-25.

Yep. Since I didn't have a signal generator, I simply tuned another radio to the station I wanted, then started sweeping. More than one way to skin a cat...
