Philco 46-427 re-capping
#1

Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum. I just finished recapping this radio. There are a couple of caps with a coil on them (see picture) How do you deal with these? It appears that one end of the coil is soldered to one of the cap leads and the other cap lead is connected normally like other caps. I was unable to replace these two caps because of the coils.. I wasn't sure how to deal with them. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Don - welcome.

Those coils were intended to serve as wave traps for the IF signal. Generally, they may be replaced with regular capacitors with no ill effects. If it connects between B- and chassis ground, as these usually do, some collectors advocate reducing the value of the caps from 0.1 or 0.2 uF to 0.047 uF to reduce any residual AC on your set's chassis.

I also suggest you read the following page on this subject, which may be found on Chuck's website.

Thanks Ron, for the explanation. The radio is working fine with those two caps, so I think I'll leave them as is for now and replace them with modern caps later if there is a problem

IF can wire size and Rubber mounts?
Renovated Radios do carry what you need. As for the voltage, a wire should be at least 300V-rated.morzh — 11:13 PM
