I'm recapping my PT-93 & need to know what to use to replace the condenser & choke assy.It seems to be a wire wound paper cap.(.2uf)so
can I just make one & if so what type of cap.& wire, how many turns of wire &
will it matter where I grnd. Thanks-Jim

That gizmo was to provide a low impedance ground connection at the IF frequency since it was found that the original paper caps had some undesirable self-resonant properties.

Modern caps don't have that same concern so you can use them without the extra coil. Do try to use the same grounding point if at all possible.

Chuck has an in-depth discussion on this cap/coil combo, and a later replacement for same, on his website.
