Philco 19-126 tone control
#1

Hi Folks.  I got my 19 electronically restored but I have one little hiccup.  The tone control is a 4 position switch that is coupled between the output tube and the volume control tap.  Now position 1,2 and 4 are fine but in position 3 I get a nasty squeal when the volume is up past about one third. Has anyone else experienced this?

Seem like the .006 inside 33 isn't doing it's job. Check it or you can connect a .001-.005 across it this should take care of the squeal. You could try swapping the 42 and the 75 with know good ones that may do it too.

Thanks. I will look into it. I replaced all the caps but I may have miswired that one... It is such a bear to remove that control!

I'd just check wiring on the switch wouldn't necessarily take it out to do it.

I did just that, Terry. Thanks. I disconnected the wire from the plate of the 42 going to the tone control, and put an .005 in its place. Now the radio seems to work fine!!
