Will a 655 fit in a cabinet for a 610?
#1

All, I'm working on a Radiobar that currently has a 1935 GE radio installed in the cabinet.  When I restored this it was clear that the radio had been changed and it originally had a Philco 610 installed.  I've got a new grill made so I can convert it back to a 610. I've got another radiobar with a 610 and I used that grill for a template to make my new one. I've got all the holes drilled in my new grill and was wondering if a 655 would fit.  I don't have the radio yet and was wondering if I had any other options.  From photos it looks like the knob placement and dial on the 655 are very similar to the 610.
Thanks,
Keith

Nope.

The control shafts of a 610 are closer together than the control shafts of a 655. Not to mention the larger escutcheon, and shadow meter...

Now, you could install a 620, or even a 630. But nothing larger.

Thanks Ron, I was thinking of bidding on a 655,  good thing I asked.

A 625 or 635 will also work. Unfortunately, not a 655.

You can probably save it using coils on the wire leads. Try unwinding a tad off each end of the rf coil.RodB — 09:47 PM
