New find, 37-116X
#1

This thing almost scares me after inspecting underneath the chassis Icon_eek But, I replaced the filters and took her for a test drive. She plays well. Very sensitive. All the caps including the electrolytics look original.

Brian,

That is a very nice find. You will get a lot of enjoyment out of that one. I have a 37-116X here also. It plays too, but the cabinet is pretty rough. I'm hoping to find a better cabinet some day.

I tried for a bit to get a 37-116 and finally ran into one located near Charlotte NC at a good price ~$70. I kept trying on ebay but they all seemed to top out in the 150-200 range and I ended up with most of Philco's high end 38 models 38-1, 38-2, 38-3, 38-4, 38-116, 38-690, 38-2670 but only one 37-11 to show for the 1937 model year. They are nice radios and once I finish the back-logged honey do list (ceramic tiling two bathrooms) and then I have to redo my basement and my workshop so that I can get back to working on some radios. Nice radio, I am still torn between which model line 37 or 38 that I like best but I don't think you can go wrong with models from either year.
