Philco 39-85
#1

Have a 39-85 (code 121) battery set with a very restorable tombstone cabinet, but the set is battery driven (90v and 1.5v).

Does anyone know if they built an AC chassis for this same cabinet? Thanks.

No, they did not.

There's one on eBay, converted to AC. The photo shows an extra power supply inside.

I've gfot the single band model of that set it's a good player on batteries. The B battery current is about same as a transistor set @ 12ma. Filaments are 200ma. I used 4D cells in parallel and work out fine. Not sure how long they would last maybe 10-15hours. I get the cheap ones from the $store. The major plus is that since your not plugged into the ac line it doesn't pick a whole lot of interference. Bit like a humongous wooden portable.

I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts

figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

There is something neat about a Big Humongus Wooden Portable.

If you rig it up for battery you could take it out in the yard and listen to it, I would! My neighbors suspicions about me would be confirmed.
