Philco Stereophonic Hi Fi Radio M-1001-124
#1

Hello - haven't seen one of these so I grabbed it off ebay for my collection.  It survived shipping and plays well on both bands - all tubes original Philco brand - interestingly the 12BA6 and 12BE6 are Philco brand but made in Japan (Hitachi tubes I think)  All tubes with date codes 22-63.  Has not been touched in anyway - all original including a massive multi section cardboard cap installed in a "shelf" above the chassis - I can't make out all of the values but I think one section is 475 MFD @ 175 Volts?  Is that possible?  Looking for a schematic for this radio - has thunderous sound - even the AM band sounds better than average on this radio.  Was this Philcos effort/answer to the big Zenith MJ1035 model?   This radio also has jacks for "R speaker cabinet" plus R and L external speakers.   Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Methinks it is. Your is a 475@175v-20-20mfd@ 150v. The diagram I found varies a little but what a few mfd's among friends. First set I've seen w/a tube mux circuit.

figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

Thank you for that information - btw - what is a "mux circuit"?

Mux: multiplex or multiplex adapter circuit for converting monaural fm to stereo.

Many of the early AM/FM Stereo sets were all tube...

I have one of the Zenith MJ1035 with 6AS5 outputs, as well as a RCA & Silvertone that use 6BQ5 audio outputs... All those sets use a power transformer but the S'tone is the kicker with PP 6BQ5 outputs...

35Z5, is that an RCA 4RC96 by chance that has the PP 6BQ5 op tubes? I have one of those (minus the extra speaker) - one of my favorite radios. What is the Silvertone model?

The Silvertone is a 7407 from approx '66-'67(I think, it's currently packed away)... It's over 2ft long, and doesn't have internal speakers, same chassis was used in console stereos... Has PP 6BQ5(four total, two each channel)...

RCA is 4RC96, those are single ended 6BQ5...

I don't think I've seen a radio with 25F5 output(s)...

Tom
