Philco 40-160 Cabinet and Veneer
#1

I started the other day on cleaning up the cabinet of my 40-160F and it's just so beautiful underneath all that grime and gook. I was really impressed to see the detail of the grain on the top of the cabinet. I posted a couple of pictures at my blog http://myrestorations.blogspot.com. You can see the before and after photo, just amazing.

The veneer on one side of the cabinet is chipped a little bit and breaking away in one corner. Any thoughts on gluing down and leaving it as-is versus applying new veneer? It almost seems sometimes to me that the new veneer would help increase the value of the radio, but I'm not positive about that.

Brian, if you're still here, the cleaned up portions of your set's cabinet look great.

I would glue the original veneer back down if it does not have too many flaws (chips, only very small missing sections, etc.). And then use new or salvaged veneer to replace the missing pieces.
