Hi all,
First timer here. Some yrs ago I restored the cabinet (see attached) for my 41-256T then got distracted and set it aside. Now back on it for a final very gentle 600 grit rub-out and to place the radio station call letters into my new escutcheon (see 2nd attachment). However, to my horror the little boxes for the call letters with plastic overlay do not match the original. It's hard to explain, but the original has a slot at each end of the opening to grab the paper and plastic cover and hold them in place. No such slot on the replica. Has anyone encountered this and if so, how'd you deal with it? All I can come up with is to very carefully trim 1/8" off each call letter/plastic pair, push them in from the front--nothing to hold them there--then follow up with just a tiny dab of UV cure epoxy so they don't drop out. A pretty klutzy/klunky solution in my view, but... I suppose if I were lucky enough to trim them just perfectly, friction alone might hold them in place, but that's a tricky job for a non brain surgeon.
I do have an email into where I bought the escutcheon in 2013 along with the new set of push buttons and Philco decal, but 7 years later, I doubt he'll do anything. I know, I just got sidetracked with other projects, and with the job 99.9% done, most of fun and challenge was over.
I only paid $30 at the time, but now see the escutcheons are up to $50. Yikes. And no guarantee this issue is fixed. It's a basic die design bug with the injection molding.
Any other ideas?
