Restoration of My 46-1209 Console Set
#1

In 2018 I performed the electrical restoration of my 46-1209 set that had last worked in the 1980's. The cabinet was restored by a professional restorer following a flooding event in 2014. Now the set is working great. It does not have the turntable, however.

The video summarizing the history of the set, my restoration, and demonstrating the set is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7FhCL4rjis

I made a set of station labels and clear covers for the pushbuttons.

*** Edited 2/23/2021 to replace scribd.com link with included .pdf of my report.***

Here is my report where I documented the restoration effort and bench testing results.

I edited this post to include the .pdf of my report as an attachment you can download from here, instead of linking to scribd.com. That site used to be free for downloading my stuff but now you have to be a "member" to download anything ($10 a month ! ) so I quit uploading to it.

In fall 2019 one of the Sovtek 6V6GTs decided to go out in a blaze of glory. I replaced both Sovteks with a pair of brand new JJ 6V6S from Amateur Electronic Supply. They have been working great ever since. They are the ones in my avatar image.

Please keep us posted how the JJ tubes work out for you. From what I have read elsewhere, JJ tubes do not seem to have a great reputation. I hope that is incorrect as I have three Fishers that use 7591 outputs, and the JJs are significantly cheaper than the Russian Tung-Sols (which apparently have become the "standard" in new manufacture 7591 tubes).
