Cleaning paint from 46-420 bakelite case
#1

Hello Experts,

I'd like some suggestions for the gentle removal of paint spots from a really nice Hippo bakelite cabinet. It polished up really nicely, but at some point it got flecked with paint. I can, with great effort, clean up each fleck with a fingernail. Maybe some has a gentler method.

Thanks,

Dave

My favourite paint spot tool is a razor blade scraper, the type where a hard backed safety blade slides into a holder. I always round of the corners of the blade on sandpaper so they won't catch and scratch, then hold the scraper on a shallow angle and be gentle. They usually come right off.

Thanks for the suggestions. Good Deal.

Bakelite is resistant to solvent paint remover but not a caustic paint remover. Some Bakelite will be O.K. with oven cleaner lye. But I would not use it.

Never clean Bakelite with Windex, 409 or other "super" household cleaners. They can remove the top surface and permanently leave the finish dull.

Mechanically removing the paint has risks...  chas
