philco 610
#1

can anyone tell me what the difference in a philco 610 and the 610f i am in need of a good chassis for a 610 there is a 610f on eBay i was wondering if that would work for my 610 i have a bad transformer

The "F" designates the cabinet style the model 610 chassis was housed in, this case it's a smaller skirted console cabinet. But the chassis should be the same. The only thing to be aware of is that there were two chassis versions available back in the day: 25-40 cycle and 50-60 cycle. The difference is in the power transformers and subsequent filter capacitors that were used. Your set would have an "A" after the model number, if it's a 25 cycle unit.

If it is a US set, it is not likely to be "A"; those are Canadian ones.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Morzh,
That is true...we seem to have had a lot more 25-40 cycle sets here in the Great White North. But I wanted to let him know that it was still possible, as most U.S. manufacturers did produce a 25 cycle version of their sets.

Back in the covered wagon days the hydro from part or all of the falls was 25HZ. Some parts of the Western USA were 25 or 30 or 40 HZ. So a set that was built to work on 25 will work on all of the above plus 60. Living in Florida were people move to when retiring you find all kind of strange things Some info on old power plants.  http://edisontechcenter.org/Mechanicville.html Some more info  http://edisontechcenter.org/Niagara.htm
