Protecting the photofinish
#1

I have a 42-380 and the photofinish bits are in pretty good shape, but the rest of the cabinet needs a good refinishing.  What's the best way to protect the photofinish?  Can I use painters tape over it, like Frogtape?

This is what I've done when repairing some damaged pf. Clean it w/a soft cloth and oms the remove dirt and grime. Use Mohawk sanding sealer and apply 3 or more coats. Sand with a sanding block and 400g or higher grit just to smooth. Wait between coats for each coat to dry. After you are happy w/how it looks and it's dried for a week or so go ahead and start masking.

I would use a masking tape that is not all that sticky but the solvent in lacquer finishes won't dissolve. Same thing w/using paper to mask. News paper is a bad idea! The finishes will bleed thru and glue the paper to your work. That sucks! Use masking paper it designed to block chemicals from going thru it.

When I was repairing I was add color the worn areas in the pf. https://philcoradio.com/phorum/showthread.php?tid=18546

figure out what all those squiggly meant.

You can probably save it using coils on the wire leads. Try unwinding a tad off each end of the rf coil.RodB — 09:47 PM
