Philco Model 76 Highboy
#1

Back in Feb I scored a nice model 95 Highboy, see earlier post.  Saved from a guy that likes chopping them up into Liquor cabinets.  Icon_thumbdown Icon_thumbdown   Yesterday I found its brother, a model 76 Highboy.  Same cabinet, different chassis inside.  I believe there was four different radios you could get in this cabinet back in 1929.  As with the model 95, this one is in great shape original finish with a tapestry cloth in fantastic shape.  This one has a bit of veneer peal on the bottom of both sides, but not too bad and easily fixed.  Could not pass it up for only $40. Bonus, this one still had a good RCA UX245 in it.  Icon_thumbup Icon_thumbup   Issue is, I don't have room for all of these consols.  Plan to get them both running and then will have to let one go.

That's a nice looking cabinet. With a little bit of rub on stain and paste wax that should even out the finish. When you replace the filter caps on this set it's important to use film cap rather than ecaps. They're low values like 1 or 2 mf @630v.  Primaries on the rf coils a lot of times are open, not a big deal to rewind.

Have fun chasing electrons!

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.
Circa 1966
Now I think I've got!
