Is the resistor/ mica cap soldered to that connection too?

Well then it should be connected to the cathode/suppresser grid of the mixer tube. In plain language it goes to pin 4 or 5 (should be wired together at socket) of the 77 tube closest to the ant post.

hi terry...upon closer inspection, there already is a (green line) wire also soldered to the resistor/mica post and ends at post 4 & 5 on the 77 tube. (see photo) it doesnt seem right that the loose wire (red line)would duplicate the same run. what are your thoughts?
question: there are three hex nut tuning adjustments on the rear chassis plate.
perhaps the loose wire came off of one of these? thanks !

OK well the only other thing that connects to that part of the circuit is whats call a gimmick capacitor. According to the schematic it should be wired in at pins 4 or 5 of the 77 socket. That connection that the coil were that wire comes from is just a tie point as the windings are only connected to the other two posts the other two ends of the windings are connected to the coil bracket thus grounded.
Anyway the gimmick cap is just two wires twisted together with the insulation intact. The bare wire must not come in contact with each other. The other wire comes from the center post of the volume control. If remember right seems like I seen the wire rapped around the VC wire about 2 or 3 turns.
Good luck w/ it

Hi Steve,
I like to be a help when I can and have fixed a lot radios over the years. I'll mention in passing you should take a resistance measurement the resistor/mica cap at the other side where there aren't wires solder the coil terminal just the resistor and cap. Measure from that point to chassis ground. If all is well it should show a very low resistance like just a few ohms. If not you will need to rewind the coils feedback winding. It's no sweat just take a few minutes. It's a very common problem with these set. And while your at it unplug the set from the wall, turn the volume control all the way up measure from the ant post to chassis ground. Same deal except it's the ant coil that open. Another easy fix. Let us know how these check come out.
