speaker repair
#1

I am sure this topic has been discussed many times but being new to this, I figure why not be straight forward and ask.

I have some speakers on several radios that have tears or rips in the cones. The material is all there, but there are rips.

What methods can I use to repair the tears. I have read that some people use fabric glue. Others will use speaker glue and coffee filters, nail polish, etc, etc.

What works for you and what would be the easiest way to go.

Thanks.

I use tea bags & flexible fabric glue. Cover the area with glue, apply a piece of the bag over the glue then spread glue over it again. Make sure to work out the air bubbles & smooth everything out. If possible, patch both sides of the cone.

Small holes, I also patch with tea bags. For tears with no pieces missing, I butt join them with E6000 scrap-bookers' adhesive available at the craft stores. It is a non-acidic silicone glue that stays flexible. I sort of rub it into the cone paper with my finger tip to make sure it penetrates the fibers. The finished spread is less than 1/4 inch when done. It does dry shiny, though.
