41-280 push button tuning
#1

Those peaky tuning coils. I've managed to match the rated range of each button/coil combination with the appropriate station. Some stations were easy and I could do it by ear, a few others I used a signal generator for a few, but am having some problems with a few frequencies. Here's my question. When I turn the screw all the way in on a coil, is this the lower or higher end of the band (i.e. 560 vs. 1700)?

The core you are screwing in should be a ferrous material. With it all the way in the inductance will be at its maximum and so the frequency will be at the minimum of its range (560Kc). When it is all the way out, the inductance is minimum and frequency is maximum (1700Kc).

From my experience capacitors 21 and 21A 370mmF caps need to be replaced for the adjustments to be stable. 360 mmf (360 pF silver mica) will work fine. Also cap 24 has been bad in two restorations.

Kind regards,
Terry
