Philco 118 code 121 new project+question
#1

Well, I said I was going to give up after finally finishing the 38-116 but my neighbor brought over a 118. Chassis doesn't look too bad, cabinet looks good, speaker should work with a cone! Sure is cramped underneath and with enough cap blocks to keep me busy. Open 1st IF primary, all other coils and iron look good on preliminary inspection. Posting for parts requirements on the classified. Though you would like to see a preview of the chassis bottom.

Thought I would ask for some ideas on the removal of the bad 1st IF transformer. Unlike other coils the IFs are not held in place in the can with a simple metal tab on the coil screwed to the chassis. The insides are locked in the can with a "C" clip that appears to be also sheathed in a cotton type covering. Actually looks like a piece of chassis wiring, but it is not. I see no way to reach in there and pop that clip out of the groove that it sets in. Anyone out there do this successfully? If so technique used please?
Thanks Jerry

Edit: got it out and repaired it!
