Date ?
#1

Hi All;
On the Output Transformer, it has a date of 10-36.. It is part number 32-7723N.. Would this have been an approximate date for my Radio, or were only replacement Transformers made with dates on them ??
THANK YOU Marty

If you are referring to your Philco 34, then no, the model 34 was out of production before October 1936 - in fact, 1937 model Philcos were bring built in October 1936.

Philco transformers are all stamped with the month and year of manufacture. Which means your output transformer was a replacement, and was made in October 1936. As to when it was installed, that is anyone's guess. A part made in October 1936 might have been stocked by a Philco distributor or dealer for months or even years before it was actually installed in a customer's set.

Hi All;
Thank You Ron, for your prompt reply and the information.. The input Transformer 30-7233 and its date is 12-34.. It was on the bottom of the transformer instead of on the top of it, so I had to unbolt it to find the date.. Which is probably more likely closer to its production date.. By the way when was the Model 34 made (what years) ?? Was it a model 34 because it was first built in 1934 ??
THANK YOU Marty

Model 34 did hit the market in January 1934, but it was not assigned model number 34 because of the year. The model number starts with a 3 because it is a battery-operated radio. They had already built a model 30, 31, 35, 36, 37 and 38, so the next logical (illogical) number was...34. Plus, model 32 was introduced at the same time; this was a model 89 modified to run on 32 volt DC power used on some farms at that time and built in a larger cathedral cabinet to accommodate the large external vibrator power supply.

January 1934 was halfway through one of Philco's selling season. The 1935 models were introduced in June 1934, and model 34 remained in the lineup, only in new cabinets. It was at this time that the original two-position tone control was switched to four position.

Yes, the interstage (input) transformer probably is the original, and would indicate that it was built between December 1934 and February 1935, probably closer to December '34 but not necessarily in that exact month. So your 34 was built during Philco's 1935 selling season.
