Packard Bell AM/FM radio
#1

Hi;
About two weeks ago someone gave me a Packard Bell AM/FM radio along with a bunch of other assorted junk. I think it is a model 7R3 from around 1959-60, seven tubes, series string, selenium rectifier, two knobs, ruler dial, and a basic wooden box cabinet with a faux wood grain. If someone has a circuit diagram for one of these please let me know.

I guess it's about time to give this thread a bump. I did manage to get it playing somewhat on both bands, there were two bad tubes, a 50EH5 that was shorted and a very weak 12AT7. The AM broadcast band works reasonably well, the FM works but is very weak. I put it into dry dock for now until I can find the proper service information.

I always loved Packard Bell stuff but as I remember they seemed to be sold only on the West Coast

Some of it is built kind of on the cheap side, but they were an RCA licensee so they used pretty reliable and proven circuits, at least on their older stuff from the 1930s and 40s.

Absolutely no one is going to reverse engineer that circuit. Even the iron core is missing.RodB — 10:37 AM
