Unusual Philco 116B
#1

I just won this one tonight.  Looks a little funny, but it's got 11 tubes and 5 bands!

I'm curious to find out what I will be getting.   Icon_biggrin

Judging by the anchor and shield pattern on the speaker grill I would say that the radio may have been used in a Coast Guard or Navy base at one time. Looks very interesting. I will be interested to hear more when you pick it up. Since it is so unique, perhaps you might start it in its own thread.

The cabinet is homemade, but someone did a pretty decent job of it. Maybe it was owned by a former sailor?

Thanks, Ron. I'll post some pics when I pick the radio up, hopefully Monday!

That was a great deal just for the chassis and speaker, plus you get a unique homemade cabinet.

I know it is a long-shot, but it sure would be interesting to find out the history of that cabinet.

+One on what John wrote. You got a great deal there.

Well, I did manage to pick this up today, although that is an annoying story.  Anyway, some photos!

The front panel has a soft curvature to it, and the crossed-anchor grill decoration stands proud of the cabinet an 1/8". And it's HUGE, it about dwarfs my 16B, which is hard to imagine.

Almost certainly a Coast Guard emblem.
