Philco 48-214-125 Transitone
#1

Hi Gang,

My brother just picked up a Philco 48-214-125 Transitone AM radio at a sale for $3. I assume the 125 is a production code of some type. I'm thinking maybe it doesn't have the correct knobs as they are the same as those on the 42-1008, so the knobs alone are, to me, worth more than the $3. Radio is in fairly good shape for its age.

Best Regards,

Mike

$3 is always a good price for any radio. Icon_biggrin

Yes, the 125 means Code 125.

According to the factory catalog illustration of Model 48-214, it shows knobs identical to 1941-42 Philco knobs. See the picture of this model on my site's Philco Gallery.

The 48-214 looks like a fairly attractive set if it's in decent shape, and unlike a pre war model it will have vinyl covered wiring instead of the rubber stuff. At least in the factory advertising it looks like it has the same knobs as some of the 1942 sets, my 42-327 has the same, but the post war set will have bakelite ones while the pre war ones could have been either Bakelite or Tenite.
Best Regards
Arran
