#1

I have come into possesion of a philco model 83 lowboy, can't find too much on it, anyone have any info? Thanks for the consideration.

Hi

It's a 25 cycle version of Model 87. Look for Model 87, you should find a lot of info on it.

Sorry if this is a silly question (I'm still new here) but can a 115 vac 25 cycle model still be used today?

Not a silly question, don't worry Icon_smile

Yes, absolutely - a radio designed to operate on 25 cycle AC will work just fine on today's 60 cycle AC power. The 25 cycle power transformers were much larger, beefier, than their 60 cycle counterparts.

Now the opposite is not true - a radio designed to operate on 60 cycle AC will NOT work on 25 cycle AC; the power transformer will quickly burn up as it is not designed for the lower frequency current.
