The second radio I started today.
It is a brown backelite 38-12.
I bought it for a very good price of $40 and the shipping was reasonable. The lady wrapped it in very few plastic store bags plus put some pieces of bubble wrap in between the tubes, despite my advice, but somehow the radio was lucky and arrived totally undamaged. Or so I think.
Here are the pics:
Front. I have already bought the dial cover from Mark Palmquist

Chassis' top. Dusty, aren't we.
Bottom of the chassis. The full opposite of the top, no pun intended.

Typical....on the speaker the xfmr primary's open. I might have the transformer though.....
Field is good and this is what's important.

You may want to consider put a thin piece of clear plastic between the dial and pointer.
Common with the pointer tearing up the foil on the dial.

That is a great suggestion Terry, I learned the hardway and now must endure a very plain looking Radio Daze repro on one of my Philcos.

I resumed Sunday after Kutztown.
Removed the old output transformer, had to drill out the rivets.
Rebuilt both caps yesterday, recapped everything, three resistors had to go.
Opened and cleaned the volume pot.
Today replaced the output xfmr, having riveted it to the speaker.
Connected everything, powered it up.
Works fine, receives stations across the dial.
Need to align obviously.
Need to remove and wash the tuning cap, very dirty.
Then the alignment.
Then gluing the dial cover, cleaning the cabinet, maybe learning how to polish it a bit, assemble the radio.
Done for today.

Removed the tuning cap. It's a pain but affer 620 with its switch and all it was almost a breeze.
Now it is soaking. The gromnets solidified and crumbled. I could've left it since it was working fine but there is a lot of dirt in it and around and it feels wrong. Plus it has the string. Simple but.....I hate strings.

Well the ekectrical part's done.
Put all back in, aligned it.
Realized the volume pot is acting up. Opened it again, cleaned with alcohol, then some Deoxit plus taking the shaft out and bending the wiper just a tad. Then it worked nicely.
Now I am trying to manufacture the cloth holding board out of some Foam Core board.
Tomorrow will see.

No, it's not a problem, just during certain condition it could show up.
Yes, an internal tube short could do that too.
