Philco model 90

Well I must be a glutton for punishment but thought I would give this one a try. In think it's worth saving.

Any radio that did not kill anyone deserves being saved. As I understand if it did, it would be probably hanged, drawn and quartered and then discarded without a decent burial, so someone having painted it Hideous Bluegreen indicates it did not commit anything reprehensible over its life time. So it deserves the second life.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Hopefully the paint was simply protecting the veneer all these years!

I would eat the tootsie rolls and think about how to attack that one, what is the plan as they would say on "GO GO Gophers"?

Icon_lol Icon_lol  I'm glad you got that one Kirk.  I have seen your work and it will be a beauty when your done.
Paint strip day for mine to see what's lurking under that ugly paint.

Kirk

You will need the new bottom for that one.

I ran out of citristrip and don't want to use something stronger till I see the whole cabinet. So far it looks promising.
#9

Yes that is looking good so far!
#10

Why would anyone ever cover up that beautiful wood with paint? They should be ashamed of themselves!
#11

Actually it looks good.

Did some more stripping today wit citristrip. Only found one flaw on the front just to the right of the escutcheon hole. I'm going to hit it with lacquer tomorrow morning. Too darn hot this afternoon, 99 deg. right now.

It also looks like the paint acted as a grain filler so will have to use the lacquer to get it out.

YYou have the luck to get something this NICE----GOOD for you,,,happy trail
#14

Thank you Kenneth. I do feel lucky it turned out as it has. I will post 1 more picture of the cabinet after I get it completely stripped hopefully tomorrow. Then I have to finish the Western Auto radio cabinet I have been working on.
I have to work outside and weather seems to always be a problem. Hot, wet or too windy.
#15

Finally got it stripped ready for grain filler.
