Philco antenna info
#1

Hello Everyone,
I'm still having problems with the missing antenna on that Philco 49-1405
The set fires up but it will not recieve a station with internal antenna missing since it is part of the tuning circuit.
my question is there way to find out if there is another model of philco that has the same antenna .
or does anyone else have this model .
So get some info to find out the about how the antenna looks like and may be how many turns there are of the copper magnetic wire since I know the gauge or if someone can measure the inductance value I can figure the rest.
Here is the Philco part no 76-2127-9 but I did find a on Nostagia air that a 48-1201 /48-1260 uses a part no 76-2127-3 and -4
So does anyone have any of those sets .

Hello Radiorich.
Have you tried subbing any regular loop antennas from other sets as I suggested before in your initial post?

If not, heres another suggestion. If I remember correctly, those model orig antennas werent very massive in size at all.
You could try making your own substitute to get the set receiving again if you have a ohmmeter.

Try this idea,:... find a small cardboard box that resembles a old vintage cigar-box. Use some # 18 guage single-strand wire with outside jacket to wrap around the skinny-sides of the box. Lets say, approx 8" x 5" type sturdy box.

Punch a hole thru both -sides of one corner, and feed the insulated wire thru the starting-winding hole. Take your trusty ohmmeter, set it on ohms, connect one meter lead via alligator clip to the wire ( starter end) corner of box ( winding starting point) and reel off enough wire to read ( approx 3.6 ohms). Cut the wire where you get 3.6 ohms ( can inject a sewing-needle thru the wires outer jacket, connected to other ohmmeter lead to get proper-length of wire to measure 3.6 ohms total. Then, wrap the remaining wire ( 3.6 ohms in length) around the box, and terminate the wires end on the same corner of box where you started the winding.
Attach one end of your homebrew antenna wire to the appropriate connection on the radios tuning-capacitor. The other end of your homebrew antenna-loop terminates to the radios chassis with a 5 mmf mica cap in series with a 150K 1/4 watt resistor.
If you want the set all "original", ebay would be your best-bet to find a exact replacement off a unrestored set of the same model number(s) you mentioned. Just tryin to help with ideas!
Best of luck on your Philco restoration!!
