Philco 46-1201 Restoration

All, I am starting on a 46-1201 Code 126 I noticed something that doesn't appear on schematic ?? I think..

Any clue on what this is.. Just curious before I take chassis out..

Looks like something someone added on. What for, don't know. The wiring on the top side of the chassis and how clean it is looks like it might have been restored at some point.

Ok, Got chassis out of cabinet.. Opened up the unknown item.. Looks like resistors.. With 3 terminals..

It has a Philco part number But I cannot read it.. One of the wires attaches to Pin 8 of the 35L6 tube..
Hard to see where other go. Here is bottom of Chassis.. Looks like a big mess..

So not sure if I will proceed with it.. Doesn't seen to follow the schematic I got from Chuck.. Maybe I will just sell it for a parts unit??

power resistor,,,,,but we have no schematic to tell you which one,,,I hope ,,the smarter Gentlemen will Chime in here to help you out,,,,these sometimes short out to there casing ,,it has 2 resistor readings on this one ,,,I presume,,I had one go to short ,,to the chassis bolt on,,,which it should not read ,,anything----I think

Ok that's an candohm resistor. I haven't seen one in that location before. Maybe someone here can help out with why it is on outside the chassis. usually they are riveted to the inside wall of a chassis.

It say its a Code 126 Run 3..
Also has different IF transformers..32-4161-1

Well if it is tied to pin 8 of the 35L6 it very well be the cathode resistor. Most of the time it's not more than a watt or so.

Skip, I've restored 5 of these 1201's. Three 1946's and a 1948 48-1201. Since the 1946 model 46-1201 was sold during 1946 & 1947 (there wasn't a 47-1201), a ton of changes were made to the circuitry during the first two years of production. Ron had posted ZIP file listing the changes for each code here:

I've never seen a code 126 either, but you can look at the changes between code 125 and 127 to see what is different. The part (external resistor block) in question is indeed factory installed. With regards to your chassis, I wouldn't say it's a mess at all. You're fortunate that it has all of the original factory installed caps. It even appears the electrolytics are the originals. That makes it easier to follow along with the schematic / parts location. The chassis is just "a bit" cramped.

All, Thanks for all the inputs. Since I have all the caps I might as well do it..Looks like I will have help here in-case I run into problems.. And since the newer parts are indeed smaller it will be easier to see whats underneath.. I do have all the paper work from Chuck. It doesn't have much on code 126.. So we will see if I can follow along with the prints..

All, Question about this Capacitor..

It has a coil around it.. Its a .2 MF.. C403My replacement id a .22 and its about 1/4 of the size this one is.. Do I need the coil? What is its purpose?

Was thinking about resistor issue and it acures to me that you only have 103v worth of heaters to heat. So I'm thinking that it's connected to heater (pin 2 or7 rather than 8 which is the cathode) The tap is for dial lamp??
The coil around the cap you can skip, just connect the cap to B- or ground.

Terry, Ok let me look again.. I think the resistors are R100A and R100B .. At lease the values match..
This uses a 50X6 instead of a 50Y6GT so the pin numbers change..
Let me look to see where the wires really go to.. I probably had it going to wrong tube??
