Philco 87 Help Needed
#1

Hi, I just got a Philco 87 at the local thrift store and I'm going to start and restore it. It looks to be all original minus a few parts.(still has most globe style tubes). It's missing the three smaller knobs (tuning knob is there). Can they be found? About half the dial is worn. Anyone knows if it can be restored? Also the decretive work in the speaker opening, was that on all modle 87's? I saw on a philco site one had a tapestry print. Is that also correct? Any and all help would be appreciated. thanks, Richard

Hi Richard

Yes, knobs and reproduction dial scales are readily available; sources for these may be found on this site's Parts Sources page:
http://www.philcoradio.com/resource.htm

Earlier Model 87 lowboys have the decorative cutouts in the speaker grill, and plain gold cloth identical to that used in Model 20. Later 87 lowboys use the "tapestry" cloth, with no grille cutouts.

Reproduction cloth may be found at http://www.grillecloth.com .

Thanks Ron, I ordered the speaker cover print and started looking for the other parts. This is the oldest one yet I have restored. Electronics pretty simple. Thanks again, Richard
